Day 1 - Welcome to Costa Rica!

Arrive San Jose, Pick-up and transfer to hotel . Free afternoon or evening to relax and explore on your own. Overnight at your choice of hotel either in San Jose or the surrounding mountains.  Butterfly-Farm-Manuel-Antonio


Day 2 - Volcanoes, Butterflies & Waterfalls

There is lots to see in the Central Valley area: waterfalls, volcanoes, butterfly gardens, orchid gardens, coffee plantations, canopy tours and much more. Choose a day tour:

  • Irazu Volcano & Lankester Botanical Gardens
  • Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall & Gardens
  • Coffee Plantation & Butterfly Farm
  • Or other day tour available from the San Jose area

Overnight at choice of hotel either in San Jose or the surrounding mountains.


Day 3 - To the Jungle

Depart for Tortuguero (on the north Caribbean coast) via bus / boat combo. Arrive by mid day and have the rest of the afternoon free to explore and relax. Optional trip to the town of Tortuguero for shopping or visiting the Caribbean Conservation Museum. White-throated-Capuchin-Monkey-in-Tree-Drake_Bay

Overnight at choice of Tortuguero hotel (rustic luxury jungle lodge, mid range or basic hotels all with excellent food) 
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included in package as is bus / boat transportation. (optional flight available) 


Day 4 - Nature Day!

Enjoy river boat tours into the canals of Tortuguero National Park for wildlife watching.  Optional night turtle tours available from July - October.

Meals: All meals included

Day 5 - On the Road again...

Depart for San Jose today by boat / bus combo (arrive San Jose by 3 pm) or by domestic flight (arrive San Jose by 9 am). If you choose to fly back to San Jose, we can schedule a day tour or you may depart for the next destination.Aerial-From-Tortuguero_2

Overnight at choice of hotel either in San Jose or the surrounding mountains.

 

Day 6 - To the Jungle.. Again!

Depart for the Osa Peninsula via flight / boat combo (1 hour flight + 1 hour on the river), arrive at your hotel in time for lunch.

Overnight at choice of Osa hotel (rustic luxury jungle lodge, mid range or budget hotels all with excellent food (budget hotels do not include meals) 
Meals: Lunch and dinner included in package as are all transfers (from hotel to airport, airport to boat, boat to hotel)


Day 7 - Island, Dolphins & Stone Spheres

Day trip to Cano Island for snorkeling or diving. Explore one of the best diving locations is Costa Rica, Caño Island Biological Reserve. The water surrounding the island is extremely pristine and teeming with life. MoreyEelSchools of mobula rays (devil rays), turtles, and white tip reef sharks can be seen on many dives. On almost every dive, large schools of fish swimming around and overhead can be breathtaking.  *Optional: Scuba Diving or Sport fishing - half day or full day, inshore or offshore)

Day 8 - Wildlife Galore!

Day trip to Corcovado National Park. Waterfalls and beaches, birds and mammals, orchids and sea turtles, Corcovado has it all.  The plant and wildlife diversity is mind-boggling.  pair-of-whalesThere are 13 distinct vegetation types and more than 25 distinct ecosystems in Corcovado supporting endangered plant and animal species, some of which are not found anywhere else in the world.  Corcovado is most famous for its large population of Scarlet Macaws, for its pristine forests and unusually high level of biodiversity.

Corcovado National Park has more than 124 species of mammal, 375 species of bird, 117 amphibians and reptiles, 40 types of freshwater fish, and upwards of 10,000 types of insects.  One third of all the Costa Rica's tree species are found here (700 or so) and 2,418 species of plants.  Up to 100 species can be found growing on just 8/10th's of an hectare (2 acres) of land.

Anteaters, Baird’s tapirs and wildcats like the ocelot, puma, jaguar and margay are found in higher numbers here, than in any other location in Costa Rica.  All four species of Costa Rica’s monkeys are also encountered here as well as large herds of white-lipped peccaries (a type of wild pig).

Day 9 - Say Goodbye to the Rain forest

Depart the Osa via flight (less than 1 hour) for San Jose, free afternoon upon arrival. artifacts-cano-island

Day 10 - Bye Bye!

Transfer to airport for international departure. The first thing you need to do is pay a $26 per person departure tax, (not included in the itinerary)
